Word for 2011

My word of the year is TRY.
I give up too easily,
I don't start because I think I'll never finish,
This year if it looks interesting,
if it looks worthwhile,
if it's something I always wanted to do,
well, this year I'm going to TRY
and lets see how much more I can achieve

Join the (plastic) dots.......

On the day before the day before, how are you doing people?  New Year's Eve tomorrow, so in the lull before the party are we thinking of our world and how to make it a better place?  Or just how to get by, without too much fuss?  Maybe.

Stone, wood, water, sun, sky.  Plastic.
Plastic leaches.  Plastic leaks.  Plastic links, insidiously,  inexorably, to everything on this planet.  The way we use plastic, and the way we disuse plastic affects everyone.  Everyone.  Human and non-human animals.  Everyone marine terrestrial or aeriel.
Lookie here at what the oceans have to cope with.  Sarah at The Daily Ocean collects beach trash, everyday.  She hopes to
raise awareness for how much Plastic Marine Pollution is out there, that the solutions start with us right here on land, and that everyday we can make choices in what we consume and buy that can add up to make a difference.
Great spirit!
Find out some scary stuff and a way out of dependence on plastic by joining with the fake plastic fish to find ways of living plastic-free.
Take a look at  http://www.facebook.com/UselessPlasticCrap excuse me.  Ahem, *blushes* but a point worth making.
And stop with the plastic bags people, please;) Tim Minchin (hero*sigh*) advises us to
Every little bit matters, join the dots, we're all connected.
Thanks for listening
Bye for now

  1. Hi Pamela - great post topic. Even though I make a concerted effort to cut down on the amount of plastic in my life I am still appalled by how much ends up in my house...every single day. Ugh!

By the way, I want to thank you for your posts and your links to others. I'm learning so much from some of the sites I've linked to from you. Just think, we never would have met without this wonderful blogging community. Isn't it wonderful?

  3. Thanks for linking to Fake Plastic Fish. We are all in this together. And yes, plastic touches almost every aspect of our lives, doesn't it?

    I love Tim Minchin's video. It's addictive.

  4. Fantastic post. I remember visiting Dublin a few years back and wondering why we didn't have a plastic bag tax too. We seem to be a bit of a step closer. I worked on an exhibition recently with a fantastic company called KnowTrash (google 'em!) and in my research for exhibits I came across photos of an albatross similar to these http://amazingdata.com/albatross-is-the-call-of-nature-midway-albatrosses-bodies-stuff-with-plastic-rubbish/ - harrowing stuff.

And thanks for your comment, I'd love to see how your house is coming along? We're not too far from you (I saw we're oop norf too, but we're a bit further down the coast from you), but Mr BB is staying firmly put until we're finished. I'm a slave driver!! Heh x

  7. OMG Pamela I hadnt read this post!! How odd.

Thanks I shall go and have a look at the website.
Thinking of rubbish used to keep me awake at night when I was a kid!!

I do take a canvas bag shopping, my favourite saying is 'I dont need a bag'!

I think this will be my YEAR resolution, to use even less plastic.
