Word for 2011

My word of the year is TRY.
I give up too easily,
I don't start because I think I'll never finish,
This year if it looks interesting,
if it looks worthwhile,
if it's something I always wanted to do,
well, this year I'm going to TRY
and lets see how much more I can achieve

2011 Making more of Life (3): FOOD

2011 Making more of life (3)

(3) is Things to do with FOOD which (A) avoid waste (B) save time (C) are tasty;)

The current situation is a disaster movie.  And shameful.  Good food is wasted.  Fresh food goes off before it's used.  Dried foods are out-of-date.  Expensive cooking ingredients are never opened.  Meals are thrown together.  Especially when we're I'm busy.  Shopping is haphazard and very (VERY) expensive.  And did I say wasteful?
It's got to stop!

with a little help and inspiration from blogland:

PLAN
Plan all menus
+
shop with menu-planner shopping list

DO
Menu plan on a weekly rotation.  Write out the lists.
Shop when it's quiet eg.late at night
Try different cheaper stores eg. Lidl
On a quiet* week try a cooking most dishes for the week and freeze day
Buy own brand cheaper basic kidney beans, tomatoes, chick peas etc.
Cook once eat twice at least once a week
Make home-made pasta, curry, casserole sauces. Always.  Start off a freezer store.
Use the breadmaker at least once a week - maybe schedule 'breadmaking day'
Try one new main meal recipe every weekend
Try a different soup recipe every week
Use the slow-cooker at least once a week
Try making 'yogurt' (almond milk)  in the slowcooker
Bake (something new) at least once a week
Prep veggies and breadcrumbs etc. asap eg. buy peppers, leeks, chop and freeze in portions ready for meals

Mmmm getting hungry;)
