The current situation is a disaster movie. And shameful. Good food is wasted. Fresh food goes off before it's used. Dried foods are out-of-date. Expensive cooking ingredients are never opened. Meals are thrown together. Especially when

Menu plan on a weekly rotation. Write out the lists.
Shop when it's quiet eg.late at night
Try different cheaper stores eg. Lidl
On a quiet* week try a cooking most dishes for the week and freeze day
Buy own brand cheaper basic kidney beans, tomatoes, chick peas etc.
Cook once eat twice at least once a week
Make home-made pasta, curry, casserole sauces. Always. Start off a freezer store.
Use the breadmaker at least once a week - maybe schedule 'breadmaking day'
Try one new main meal recipe every weekend
Try a different soup recipe every week
Use the slow-cooker at least once a week
Try making 'yogurt' (almond milk) in the slowcooker
Bake (something new) at least once a week
Prep veggies and breadcrumbs etc. asap eg. buy peppers, leeks, chop and freeze in portions ready for meals
